Netflix has enhanced its Moments feature, allowing users to create and share custom clips from their favorite shows and movies. Initially launched in late 2024, Moments enabled viewers to bookmark specific scenes. The recent update, rolled out on September 3, 2025, introduces the ability to select both start and end points, transforming it into a more powerful editing tool.
The updated Moments feature allows users to share clips of up to two minutes via messaging platforms like WhatsApp, Instagram, and text messages. This enhancement enables viewers to highlight specific scenes and share them with friends and followers, fostering greater engagement with Netflix content.
Since its introduction, Moments has been used across thousands of titles. Notably, the performance of the Saja Boys in K-pop Demon Hunters has been among the most saved scenes globally. Additionally, the release of Season 2, Part 2 of Wednesday has sparked renewed interest in capturing and sharing memorable scenes from the series.
The updated Moments feature is available on both iOS and Android devices. Users can access and manage their saved clips through the "My Netflix" tab, making it easier to revisit and share their favorite scenes.
To use the updated Moments feature:
Play Content: Open the Netflix app on your mobile device and start watching a show or movie.
Access Moments: Tap the screen to reveal playback controls and select the "Clip" button.
Define Clip: Adjust the start and end points to capture the desired scene.
Save and Share: Once satisfied, save the clip to the "My Netflix" tab for easy access and sharing. Techloy+2WIRED+2iThinkDifferent+5Cinco Días+5The Verge+5iThinkDifferent
Other platforms are maximizing their social network reach, too!
1. Disney+ – Clips and Social Sharing
Disney+ allows users to capture and share short clips from shows and movies via its mobile app. Clips can be posted to social media platforms like Instagram and Twitter, letting fans highlight favorite moments, especially from franchises like Star Wars and Marvel. This drives organic promotion and creates buzz around popular titles.
2. HBO Max / Max – “Watch Clips” Feature
HBO Max introduced short clip sharing for key scenes from series like Game of Thrones and Euphoria. These clips can be sent via messaging apps or posted on social media, providing viewers with a bite-sized engagement tool that often serves as a teaser to encourage full-episode viewing.
3. Amazon Prime Video – X-Ray & Clip Sharing
Amazon Prime Video leverages its X-Ray feature, which provides scene-specific information like actors and trivia. Certain scenes can be clipped and shared, allowing users to combine insights and entertainment, which enhances social conversation around shows.
4. YouTube – Clips & Shorts
YouTube’s Clip feature allows users to cut 5–60 second segments from videos or live streams and share them. Combined with YouTube Shorts, this encourages viral distribution and user-generated promotion, giving creators and platforms a feedback loop of engagement.
5. TikTok & Instagram Reels – Streaming Integrations
Although not traditional streaming services, TikTok and Instagram Reels have partnered with platforms like Paramount+ and Netflix to allow for the direct sharing of snippets or trailers. These integrations capitalize on short-form video culture, boosting exposure and subscriber interest.
6. Hulu – Clips and Social Sharing
Hulu offers limited clip-sharing from popular shows, which can be posted to social networks. By allowing fans to highlight emotional or funny scenes, Hulu extends the reach of its content beyond subscribers, similar to Netflix Moments.
The overall strategy across platforms encourages user-generated content around shows and movies, facilitating easy sharing on social media platforms, as using short-form clips sparks conversation, builds hype, and drives subscriptions.
Offering interactive features, such as adding reactions, GIFs, or text overlays, for more personalized engagement. These approaches reflect a larger trend: streaming services are blurring the line between content and social media, using clip-sharing to maximize visibility, audience interaction, and virality.
By allowing viewers to select exact start and end points, Netflix is empowering users to personalize what they share, giving Moments an edge in precision and flexibility. This mirrors a broader strategy across streaming services: encouraging user-generated sharing to increase visibility, maintain audience attention, and ultimately drive subscriptions.
In this ecosystem, Moments isn’t just a viewing tool—it’s a social amplifier, positioning Netflix content to compete in a landscape where virality and engagement are as important as the content itself.
